Dan Gable and Dennis Hastert will be speaking at the Greater Washington Wrestlers Business Network event this Thursday at American University. The cost is $40 to non-GWWBN members that pre-register and $50 the day of the event. Space is limited to the first 300 registrants. Come out and support the AU Wrestling team this Thursday as they take on Hofstra in their home opener. The match starts at 8PM in the Bender Area.

If you can’t make it the Eagles will be back in action at the Bender Arena Friday night at 8pm as they take on NC State.

“The Hammer” a movie based on the life of D3 national champion wrestler and UFC star Matt Hamill will be showed this Thursday through Friday at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf at Gallaudett University. Tickets are $12 and the movie will be shown in the MSSD Theatre Malz.

Tom Christ was unable to duplicate the no gi title he won at the Copa NOVA Fall Championships at this past Saturday’s Winter Championship tournament. Undeterred from his setback in no gi competition, Tom put on the kimono and grappled his way to a second place finish in the the heavyweight white belt division. Congratulations Tom, and bring back the beard.

WWC practices resume tomorrow from 2:00-4:00 PM with a special clinic with guest instructor Olympian, Luciano Ortelli. He will also be teaching a second clinic Wednesday at 6:30 PM. Try to make it to both of these events.

Practices return to the usual time and format Sunday 1/14 in the 2:30-5:00 time slot.

There will be no WWC practices until 1-8-2012. The practice on the 8th will be at a special time (2:00-4:00) and feature a clinic by 1984 Olympian Luciano Ortelli. Check back next week for more details.

WWC member Tom Christ won the heavyweight beginner no-gi division at the Fall Copa NOVA Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Championships this past Saturday.  In the final he defeated Richard G of Pedro Sauer. Tom also competed with the kimono in the white belt heavyweight division where he finished 3rd.

Congratulations to Tom on a successful tournament.

Congratulations to long-time WWC member Josh Peters who earned a brown belt in BJJ this past weekend at Maryland BJJ Academy. In addition to training at MD BJJ and the WWC, Josh runs his own MMA gym in Silver Spring. If you see him around the room be sure to congratulate him on his accomplishment.
